The Design Process

The Design stages help clients understand the whole process and what to expect at every point in the project. This is how it works:

Step 1 - The Design Brief

We will study the space to be designed and get as much information from client regarding their design objectives, any special request, what they expect from the interior designer, including the size and scope of the project. The brief may cover points as follows:
  • Objectives and goals of the (new) design
  • Budget & schedule
  • Target Audience (in case of commercial projects)
  • Scope of the project
  • Who are your competitors? (In case of commercial projects)
  • Overall style/look
  • Lifetsyle, habits, any special requirements (in case of residential projects)
  • Any specific dos/don’ts
Our first meeting with you is an opportunity to learn more about you and your design ambitions along with your timescales and budgets. We will work with you to prepare a detailed brief and tailor our fee proposal and FF&E spend accordingly. If you wish to go ahead, we then arrange a site visit.

Step 3 - Design Development

From Concept development we then move to Design development, after getting approval from the client on the chosen concept. This stage will include preparing detailed drawings of floor plans, layouts and elevations relevant to the interior design scheme. This stage will also include the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) drawings and our team will also prepare a detailed list of FF & E required for the interior space. We will source and specify all relevant finishes, hard materials, furniture, lighting, window treatments, door designs and finishes, soft furnishings, accessories and any other items which may be required. The technical drawings made at this stage is also where we work through the “nuts and bolts” of the interior design. These drawings must reflect the budget and ensure that the work can be accurately priced by the chosen contractor.

Our detailed drawings are an important part of the information we produce for any interiors project. They explain how the chosen materials are used and how they are put together. We enjoy this part of the design process as much as any other part as it is where we really get to express how we want the fit-out to come together. As time has gone on we have evolved in how we design to make our interiors more adaptable, to make better use of material sizes and use sustainable alternatives where appropriate.

Step 2 - Concept Development

After site survey and receiving relevant drawings, we will start identifying your key design preferences and start the concept design. This will involve initial schematic drawings showing the use of space, as well as a general look and feel of the interiors. We will present a set of options which may include mood boards with hard finishes, soft furnishings, lighting etc. and the general colour scheme. This may be followed by some visuals, sample/ mood boards to explain the feel of the space and possibly sections and sketches.

Step 4 - Procurement & Installation

At this stage we will develop a procurement schedule, prioritising what is
required on site when, and ascertain the lead times of all products, so we can order everything in good time. This will start with the hard materials
required first for the build, running through to lighting , loose furniture, soft
furnishings, accessories etc.. We will visit the site at key points during the
build in order to ensure that the design scheme is being correctly implemented and our drawings are updated with final FF & E products and sizings. If client requires, we also offer full project management services.

Step 5 - FF & E Installation and accessorising

This is the final stage of the interior design process which marks the end of your build and when all FF & E products as well as accessories arrives at site within a predetermined period of time. All these items need to be unpacked, checked, positioned and sometimes assembled. Items may include loose furniture, decorative lighting, art, accessories etc.. Our designers will keep a log of all delivered items, as well as any that need to be returned in case of damage.
